A few months ago, Abhishek Bachchan dropped a sneak peek of the poster of the film, THE BIG BULL. He didn’t reveal much about it. The silhouette of Abhishek Bachchan, as intense as he looks, its tagline says—“The man who sold dreams to India”.

He revealed his complete look for the film through a poster later. It was September 16 when Ajay Devgn posted a picture mentioning the new beginning of the new upcoming project, THE BIG BULL.

The poster of the film features a silhouette in the portrait, asking the viewers to tighten their lips. What’s that he wants us to hide and stay shut? He looks sleek and polished, maintaining a heavy mustache giving royal vintage vibes with side-parted hair and framed glasses. The first look poster of The Big Bull comes with the tagline: “2021 is the year of The Big Bull! The man who sold dreams to India.”

What is the Movie about?

The Big Bull is based on the infamous stock-broker Harshad Mehta. He attempted several financial crimes during the scams of 1992 and after. Harshad Mehta mastermind behind the Rs 5,000-crore 1992 securities scandal, which led to the exposure of many loopholes in the functioning of the stock market and banks.

THE BIG BULL Movie Cast List

The Big Bull will be directed by filmmaker Kookie Gulati and produced by Ajay Devgn. It’s Co-produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Vikrant Sharma. The team started the shooting by Sept 2019. Abhishek Bachchan has co-starred with Ileana D’Cruz.

They are not paired opposite each other. Moreover, we’ll be able to see Nikita Dutta, Lekha Prajapati, and Sohum Shah who recently gained a lot of buzz due to Tumbbad as co-actors.

The Harshad Mehta Story?

On a surface level, Harshad Mehta was one of the genius stockbrokers India has ever seen. By the era of 80’S and ’90s, Harshad Mehta was a man most recognized for his brilliance. Born in a lower-middle-class Gujrati family in 1954, he was always ambitious to be a successful person.

Before he was a stockbroker he took up odd jobs like selling hosiery to sorting diamonds before getting into the share market. He started being a salesperson at The New India Assurance Company. He developed his interest in the Share market and later he became a stockbroker.

By 1981, Harshad Mehta quit his existing job and joined a broker company. By 1990, he was a well-known stockbroker, he showed tremendous growth in this lifestyle prominently said “Riches from Rags”.

What was the Harshad Mehta Scam?

In 1991-1992, there was a huge diversion of bank funds worth Rs 3500 crore, to a group of stockbrokers which was led by Harshad Mehta. He put these funds into the share market leading to a big rush reaching 4500 points.

His stock included big companies like ACC, Hero Honda, Reliance, Apollo Tyres, and Videocon to name few He pumped money so aggressively that the shares rose from Rs 200 to Rs 9000 in three years. It was almost hard to believe until that time and Soon we knew him as The Big Bull of the Dalal street

He was a synonym for the man who sold dreams. He became one of the most prominent stockbrokers at that time. People started to invest in his word. Sucheta Dala exposed his security scams in 1993. She wrote an article in “The Times of India” about Harshad Mehta explaining the loopholes of the scam. 

She spoke about how Harshad Mehta exploited the banks and broke the trust of the hundreds. It was later that the stock market saw it’s worst of all times suffering a huge loss. People called him Amitabh Bacchan of the share market, “The man who sold dreams to Indian” soon after.

What happened in the end?

The CBI arrested Harshad Mehta after the security scams were proved. Ashwin and Sudhir participated with him in the whole act with Harshad Mehta. He was charged with 72 criminal cases of cheating, bribery, criminal conspiracy and falsification of accounts along with his brothers, Hiten Dalal, Bhupen Dalal, Naresh Aggarwal, AD Narottam. Over 600 actions were taken by banks and institutions, related to the amount he owed them. 

He got bail after three months along with his brothers. In 1997, the Bombay High Court sentenced five years of imprisonment with three others in Rs 380 million Maruti Udyog fraud case( MUL). It was one of his major security scams. On 31st December, Harshad Mehta died of a heart attack in Tihar jail in 2003.

Abhishek Bachchan got criticism for a lot of roles earlier, and nobody can deny the fact that he gave a blockbuster movie like Guru, played as Gurukant Desai. It was of the path-breaking performances delivered by him undoubtedly. How the movie looks at first is probably due to Abhishek Bachchan. Abhishek Bachhan is expected to nail this role like nobody else!


We saw Abhishek Bachchan in the movie Manmarziyaan in 2018. In addition to The Big Bull, we would also be seeing him in Anurag Basu’s Ludo and Shah Rukh Khan’s -Sujoy Ghosh production Bob Biswas.
